The Launch of Science for Humanity – Global Society (SHGS)

Today marks the official launch of the Science for Humanity – Global Society (SHGS), a transformative new global organization founded by Prof. Amal Amin from Egypt and Dott. Nerina Finetto from Italy. SHGS was born from a vision shared between these two leaders, representing the Global South and North, and uniting voices from different languages, cultures, and professional backgrounds. SHGS aims to build a future where science serves humanity through inclusive, collaborative approaches, ensuring that knowledge flows freely across all borders and barriers.

Prof. Amal Amin, an Egyptian scientist, social and scientific advocate, entrepreneur and the founding chair of Women in Science Without Borders initiative, will serve as the chair of SHGS, overseeing the academic and scientific direction and excellence of the organization. Her vision, deeply rooted in the Global South mixed with wide experience on global level via huge international diverse activities, emphasizes that the advancement of science must be anchored in empathy, inclusion, and respect for diverse knowledge systems. “In SHGS, we are creating a platform where all communities can shape, benefit from scientific progress and all voices will be heard where science must be for all and for the sake of humanity” says Prof. Amin. “Our mission is to place humanity at the center of science.”

Dott. Nerina Finetto, a long-time advocate for global inclusivity in scientific discourse, will serve as Secretary General and legal representative of SHGS. As founder and CEO of Traces&Dreams, a Swedish company dedicated to using narrative and knowledge exchange to foster societal transformation, Finetto brings a unique expertise in bridging academia and business. Her work emphasizes the role of storytelling and shared knowledge in driving cultural change and collective innovation. Reflecting on SHGS’s mission, she explains, “SHGS is a testament to the strength of bringing together diverse voices from the North and South, academia and business, science and policy. We believe science can, and should, be a unifying force for a sustainable and just world.”

SHGS was founded to break away from the traditional North-South divide, embracing an interconnected, equitable view of scientific progress. Inspired by the rich diversity of the Global South and North alike, SHGS rejects a single model of development, advocating instead for solutions that reflect humanity’s diverse cultural, geographic, and academic backgrounds. SHGS’s guiding principle, “One Science – One Planet – One People,” speaks to this commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and global responsibility.

As an organization, SHGS aligns with the goals of the United Nations’ recently adopted “Pact for the Future,” which emphasizes the need for equitable science and technology access, particularly in developing countries. SHGS supports these priorities by fostering an inclusive platform for scientific exchange and collaborative projects that bridge knowledge gaps.

SHGS was established to bring people and communities together across cultural, linguistic, and professional boundaries. By uniting diverse voices and ideas, SHGS is building a global scientific community that reflects the richness of human experience and serves the collective good.
