Background
Leadership Rooted in Vision and Diversity
Prof. Amal Amin, a scientist, advocate, and entrepreneur from Egypt, serves as Chair of SHGS. Her leadership is shaped by a deep understanding of science in the Global South and her extensive international experience. Prof. Amin champions inclusivity, empathy, and the integration of diverse knowledge systems into scientific progress. “At SHGS, we place humanity at the center of science, creating opportunities for all communities to contribute to and benefit from its advancements,” she states.
Dott. Nerina Finetto, the Secretary General of SHGS, is a passionate advocate for global inclusivity in scientific dialogue. As the founder of Traces&Dreams, a Swedish organization focused on narrative and knowledge exchange, she bridges academia and business to foster societal transformation. “SHGS represents the power of collaboration between the Global South and North, science and policy, academia and business. Science must be a unifying force for sustainable development,” she emphasizes
Founded in 2024, Science for Humanity aimed at leveraging the power of science, technology, and innovation to promote sustainable development, equity, and collaboration on a global scale
A Tailored Approach to Global Challenges
SHGS rejects one-size-fits-all approaches to scientific development. Instead, it advocates for solutions that respect the unique cultural, geographic, and academic contexts of different regions. By blending local wisdom with global expertise, SHGS creates pathways for innovation that empower communities and honor their diverse perspectives. The Society’s guiding principle, “One Science – One Planet – One People,” reflects its commitment to inclusive, impactful, and globally responsible scientific initiatives.
Aligned with Global Goals
SHGS aligns with the United Nations’ Pact for the Future, focusing on closing knowledge gaps, fostering science diplomacy, and advancing equitable access to science and technology, particularly in developing regions. Its programs emphasize capacity building, collaborative research, and the integration of modern science with indigenous and traditional knowledge systems.
At the heart of SHGS’s mission lies the belief that scientific progress must transcend geographical, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries to address humanity’s shared challenges. By placing humanity at its core, SHGS ensures that knowledge flows freely, bridging divides and creating innovative, inclusive solutions for a more just and sustainable world.
A Vision of Global Collaboration
Through its work, SHGS unites people and communities across cultural, linguistic, and professional boundaries. It envisions a scientific community that reflects the richness of human experience, ensuring that innovation uplifts humanity as a whole. This commitment to a truly global collaboration empowers SHGS to shape the future of science as a force for collective well-being and shared progress.
